THE CALDWELL COLLECTION AT MUSTANG FIELD

What started as a private collection driven by passion is now a public treasure for aviation enthusiasts, historians, and the local community.  The Caldwell Collection at Mustang Field means that the Golden Age of Aviation is not only displayed, but its airplanes continue to fly, be restored, and provide education for future generations about aviation’s golden era.

Visitors have the unique opportunity to see live restoration work in The Collection’s dedicated restoration shop, operated in collaboration with Waldo Wright’s Flying Service.  This experience provides a behind-the-scenes look at the intricate skills and techniques required to keep these historic planes in flying condition.

The museum opened in October of 2025, and the antique aircraft and ground support vehicles serve as its foundation – a testament to vision, craftsmanship, resilience, and the enduring spirit of flight.  The comprehensive restoration of The Collection’s 1943 WWII hangar home at the former Mustang Field (now El Reno Regional Airport) provides the perfect setting, blending past and present to create an immersive aviation experience.

The Caldwell Collection at Mustang Field is a presentation of an era of extraordinary aircraft. It’s a celebration of the pioneers of flight, the aviation heroes of World War II who earned their wings at Mustang Field, and the passion that continues to drive aviation preservation today.
